The State Creative Arts Exhibition for 2021

The State Creative Arts Exhibition for 2021 was held in Ararat 20-21 August.

Immediate Past State President Marion Dewar declared the Exhibition open, we were joined for the Official Opening by Jo Armstrong -Mayor Ararat Rural City Council, Louise Staley – Member for Ripon (State), Tim Harrison – CEO, Ararat Rural City Council, Beverley McArthur – Liberal Party Member for Western Victoria Region (State), Alison Foletta – representing The Advertiser and Barbara Blamey – Beaufort Group President.

The Ararat Rural City Council were acknowledged for their generous support and assistance – especially Sue Brown and Tim Lewis whose assistance during the whole week was invaluable in keeping us Covid compliant.

Thank you to The Ararat Advertiser and the Sock Festival Sponsors – Bendigo Woollen Mills, Changeling coloured Yarns, Heathermaid, Millpost Merino, Tarndwarncoort and White Gum Wool.

The presentation of Trophies and Certificates was followed by a lunch for the Official Guests.

An afternoon tea was held in the Green room for past Creative Arts Committee Chairmen, attended this year by Sadie King Williams, Margaret Davis, Helen Wall OAM, Betty Mustey, Libby Milner, Wendy Earwicker, Doreen Napier and Heather Scott.

Many thanks to everyone who volunteered to assist over the duration of the exhibition, it was much appreciated as the exhibition doesn’t function without the assistance of many pairs of hands.

A big thankyou to all the entrants – with-out your support we don’t have an exhibition!

There were close to 1700 individual entries, including 90 pairs of socks for the Inaugural Sock Festival, some of these entries were from local non CWA ladies.

A heartfelt thankyou to State Treasurer Heather Scott (Exhibition Co-ordinator) and Wendy Earwicker (Creative Arts Exhibition Committee and Floor Manager) for their guidance during the week.

A huge thankyou to the husbands that come along to do the heavy work.

Last, but not least, thankyou to Beaufort group members who assisted with set up and pack up,  providing all volunteers – Monday to Thursday – with refreshments and lunch each day, the official lunch on Friday and the afternoon tea.

The 2022 State Creative Arts Exhibition will be held in Tallangatta in the north-east of the state, with the date yet to be fixed.

The Themes for the 2022 Exhibition will be “Quotations” for both Handcraft and Home Industries Group Entries.

Choose your favourite quotation which must be displayed and base your five individual items of different craft techniques for the Handcraft section or 5 individual items of different food categories for the H.I. section on the subject of that quotation.

Full instructions and examples will be published in the next Magazine and on the web site – keep an eye out!
