State Literature Competition for Members

Themes for 2025 

We’ve chosen themes that you can respond to in a range of ways. We are hoping to see everything from romantic short stories to poetic ballads based on personal or family history, to well researched factual pieces, to comical tall tales or limericks, to children’s stories and young adult fiction.

  2. Decluttering
  3. Being unfashionable
  4. Love and Loss

 

Categories

Adult section

  1. Prose – up to 2,000 words                 
  2. Poetry – up to 32 lines                        
  3. Prose or poetry under 100 words      
  4. 12 to 18 years of age – poetry

Junior Section

  1. Prose – Under 12 years of age  (up to 2,000 words
  2. Poetry – Under 12 years of age 
  3. Prose – 12 to 18 years of age (up to 2,000 words)
  4. Poetry – 12 to 18 years of age 

Submission of entries 

  • Entries must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document attached to the email.  
  • Members may submit more than one entry to the competition, but may not submit more than one entry per category.  
  • All entries must be accompanied by a completed signed entry form (scanned document acceptable).
  • All entries must be received by 5:00pm on Tuesday, 22 April 2025. No late entries will be accepted.
